Wai and Ian at Fazeley Studios

Wai and Ian got married on a wet Sunday in August at the lovely Fazeley Studios in Digbeth, an industrial area in central Birmingham, before heading into Birmingham city centre for a Chinese Banquet and then back to Fazeley for the reception.

This was the first Chinese wedding I have done and it was really interesting to see how different cultures go about a wedding day. Unlike a traditional British wedding, Ian met Wai before the ceremony as he had to perform certain tasks set by her family to show that he was worthy of her heart, there was also an egg and tea ceremony at Wai’s parents house where the whole family also got involved with the giving and receiving of gifts.

After the ceremony we headed to Chung Ying Gardens Chinese Restaurant for a banquet at which Wai and Ian have to go to all the tables to receive congratulations and give thanks to their guests. It was then back to Fazeley Studios, by which time the rain had stopped, so we took that as an opportunity to get some gritty urban portraits on the streets of Digbeth.

Some of the photography highlights for me include the little girl blowing bubbles, the shots of Ian standing in the middle of the road with the Birmingham skyline behind him and the portraits of Wai and Ian with the ladders!

I hope you enjoy looking at this small selection of photographs from Wai and Ian’s day. When finished why not check out some of my favourite wedding imagery in my wedding portfolio.
