Serendipity

So my blog today is about serendipity in my photography and how in particular I seem to have good luck finding relevant chapters or passages in books that seem relevant to a wedding day.

The first time I did this was at the wonderful Hampton Manor in Solihull, Warwickshire. They have this really lovely library and whilst I was looking for a suitable spot to take some shots of the wedding rings I casually picked up a book from one of the bookshelves, flicked through the pages and almost immediately stumbled on a chapter entitled “To be happy married” how apt. Soon after that the next venue I shot at was Ellenborough Park in the Cotswolds, again seeing a bookshelf I picked up a book and landed on a chapter headed “The world is all before them”. Blimey it’s happened again I thought to myself!

Since then a few of the venues I have shot at have had libraries or bookshelves and sometimes I’ll just randomly pick up a book and flick through it to see what lady luck will bring me this time. I’ve had “The Lovers”, “The Voyage”, romantic passages from “Pride and Prejudice” and so on. I get so lucky in fact that a bride once asked me if I had actually bought the book with me specifically to get the shot!!
