“It’s as though there’s a wonderful secret in a certain place and I can capture it. Only I, at this moment, can capture it, and only at this moment and only me”.

Walker Evans

I’ve always loved that quote. The guy who said it was one of the pioneering documentary photographers and it really reinforces to me I’m in a unique position to document your wedding, no one sees as much as the wedding photographer! As far as I’m concerned it’s my job to document the whole of your wedding day, not just the staged bits like the ceremony, signing the register, cutting the cake, the first dance etc. But those glances, looks, laughs, howlers, those little micro stories that coalesce to create the bigger story that was your wedding day.

Natural, candid wedding photography is what I love best!

When I was collating these photos it stood out to me how many give the impression of at one time being an observer and then at others being right in the middle of what’s going on. I achieve this by sometimes taking a step back and going more into removed observation mode, other times I get close, so close that it feels like you’re actually involved in the action yourself. I want you, as the viewer, to get a sense of what it was like to be in that spot when I took the photograph, to actually feel part of the story.

I want the viewer to feel what it must have felt like to have been at your wedding.
